With the 2020 Betfred Super League season fast approaching, teams are announcing their squad numbers and the latest to do so is Hull FC and, with the Airlie Birds having recruited heavily and impressively ahead of next year, there are plenty of stars who the Black and Whites’ fans will be looking out for.

While the majority of the numbers are as expected, the talismanic Jake Connor’s move from the 14 jersey to the number 6 perhaps gives an indication of how Lee Radford’s men will line up when his first-choice team is on the pitch. Previously worn by half-back Albert Kelly, Connor’s promotion up the squad number ranks suggests that last season’s rumours of an impending departure are very much behind him and the club and also leads us to think that he will be starting the 2020 season as one of Radford’s first-choice half-backs, alongside Marc Sneyd.

Recent signings Adam Swift (5), Josh Jones (11), Manu Ma’u (12) and Ligi Sao (13) have all taken shirts in the first thirteen. Interestingly, Mahe Fonua – a fan favourite in his previous stint with the club – will be wearing number 24 next season while Joe Cator and Jordan Johnstone, further off-season recruits from Leigh and Widnes respectively, will be wearing the numbers 15 and 16.

Chris Satae, a mid-season signing in 2019, moves up to number 10, seemingly cementing his position in Radford’s first-choice pack while Gareth Ellis will wear 29 as he takes his playing career into a third decade having started his career in 1999 with Wakefield.
