Hull KR have confirmed that powerful front rower Mose Masoe has been hit with an injury following their pre-season defeat against Wakefield Trinity in Danny Brough’s testimonial match.

Masoe, 30, suffered a serious spinal injury and was operated on overnight at Leeds General Infirmary. The club haven’t given a timeframe for the former St Helens man’s return to play but, given the nature of the injury, it’s unlikely that the New Zealander will be back in time for KR’s season opener against Wakefield on Friday 31st January.

As well as Masoe, Hull KR lost fellow experienced forward Weller Hauraki during Sunday’s defeat, the back-rower leaving the ground in a protective boot following an ankle injury.
