On Wednesday 28th August at Emerald Headingley Stadium, Legends will do battle as the War of the Roses returns with the white rose of Yorkshire facing off against the red rose of Lancashire (kick off 7.30pm).
The match – kindly sponsored by sportsfunding.co.uk – features stellar names from Rugby League including two of the greatest players in history, Jason Robinson & Martin Offiah.
Jason won every honour possible in Rugby League with Wigan before crossing codes where he lifted the Rugby Union World Cup and subsequently became the first black captain in history in the 15-man code.
Born in Leeds, Jason never played for Yorkshire during his league career meaning this game will allow him to finally tick the last remaining box on his incredible CV. Jason will meet one of his former teammates league legend Martin Offiah. Martin played for Widnes, Wigan, London, England and Great Britain breaking transfer and try scoring records making such an impact in the sport he is now immortalised with an induction into the hall of fame as well a statue outside Wembley stadium depicting the famous try against Leeds in 1994.
The game will be littered with rivalries; in the pack two of the fiercest competitors will once again draw swords with Barrie McDermott (Lancashire) taking on Stuart Fielden (Yorkshire). In the halves, the mercurial Sean Long will pit his wits against the live wire & Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow.
The event celebrates the careers of two great players; Rhinos legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan who has given 20-years service to his home-town club and former Wigan, Bradford, Saints, Huddersfield and Great Britain legend Lee Gilmour who has served Rugby League with over 480 games played.
