Super League have confirmed that, for the first time, the prestigious Man of Steel awards ceremony will, for the first time, be opened up to fans and will also incorporate a fans’ player of the season award.

The event, usually a black-tie event, will for the first time be ticketed with fans encouraged to wear their colours at the Lowry Theatre in Salford where, on the 6th of October, the awards ceremony will be held. It has also been confirmed that, off the back of the new Man of Steel voting system, the Super League Dream Team will be decided by the standings of the individual accolade at the end of the season. It has been confirmed that, while new awards will be announced on the night, for the first time fans will be able to vote for their player of the season in the lead up to the event held a week before the Super League Grand Final.

It has been confirmed that tickets will be available from all Super League clubs later in the season. Linzi Prescott – the widow of former Super League great Steve – said in a statement on the official Super League website that “the work Super League have done this season to revamp the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award is fantastic. It’s great hearing fans and players talk every week about the award which carries Stephen’s name.”

Rugby League legend Ellery Hanley is chairing the voting panel for the Man of Steel this season and added “I speak on behalf of all the panellists when I say that it has been a huge privilege so far this season to watch amazing athletes on display each week in the Betfred Super League. For one player, they will receive the ultimate individual accolade, The Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award on October 6 recognising their outstanding performances during the season. And along with other awards being presented on the evening, I am sure the Super League awards will be a great celebration of Super League.”
