Salford vs St. Helens- 3 key battles

Three key battles in the crucial clash between Salford and St Helens at the AJ Bell Stadium this evening.

Forwards- Craig Kopczak vs Alex Walmsley

Games are almost always won in the forwards and with Kopczak and Walmsley, it should be a real battle for supremacy. Walmsley was in the news last week after he rushed from a game against Wakefield to meet his newborn child. It capped a wonderful season for the former Batley player, who has produced wonderful performances week in, week out. Kopczak however, as captain and one of the Red Devils best players this season, is a tough test.

Playmakers- Robert Lui vs Matty Smith

Robert Lui has been a real stand out performer in the whole of Super League this season, the mercurial stand off capable of turning a game in a moments notice. If given the foundation and field position by his forwards, he can cause havoc. Smith is a much more controlled presence, but can execute a game plan to perfection.

Backs- Niall Evalds vs Ben Barba

The journey of fullback Ben Barba to St Helens wasn't the most conventional, but it can’t be denied that he has the potential to be one of the best overseas signings for some time. An NRL winner, his speed, step and all-round skill when on song are second to none. Despite that, Evalds, who can also slot in at wing or centre, has played some sensational rugby against St Helens in the past. In his past four appearances against Saints, he’s crossed for a remarkable seven tries. Both teams will be desperate to bring their fullback into play.
